Focus session · applications and forms · 50 min
Focus session for applications and forms: 50 minutes, café murmur, if you have five quiet minutes
50 minutes of applications and forms, with café murmur and a note on what to do when you drift.
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Let your tongue rest down, away from the roof of your mouth. Five quiet minutes is enough. Ten is generous. This is a short one, so let's use the time properly.
1 Before you start
- Dim the screen slightly. Bright screens make long sessions harder than they need to be.
- Promise yourself you will not check anything until the timer ends, including "just quickly".
- Go to the toilet first. It sounds trivial until you are mid-sentence.
- Decide in advance that a bad sentence is still progress.
- Close every tab that is not needed for this one task. Not minimised — closed.
2 While the timer runs
- If your attention keeps sliding, shorten the next block rather than abandoning this one.
- When you get an idea for something else, park it. Do not follow it.
- If a thought will not leave, give it one line on the page and return to the task.
- If you feel the urge to check something, write it on the paper beside you and keep going. Deal with the list afterwards.
3 When it ends
- Take the break away from the screen, even if it is just the other side of the room.
- Put the notes you made where you will find them next time.
- Roll your shoulders and your neck before the next block.
4What to put on
café murmur — The blur of other people talking, with none of the words close enough to follow. Some people concentrate better with a low level of company.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
If this block does not fit, try 25-minute focus session for problem solving with café murmur, when you want something simple, 25-minute research session with café murmur and a timer, if you are doing this instead of scrolling or 50-minute focus session for studying with white noise, before something difficult.
