90-minute focus block for planning — plain quiet, when you are too tired to try hard
A timer, a short prep list, and 90 minutes to decide what happens when.
90:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Let your eyes soften. Not closed, just less busy. Too tired to try hard is exactly the right amount of tired for this. Follow the instructions and let the rest look after itself.
1 Before you start
- Go to the toilet first. It sounds trivial until you are mid-sentence.
- Accept that the first five minutes will feel like wading. Wading counts.
- Make sure your chair is at a height where your feet are flat on the floor.
- Tell yourself the goal is time spent, not output produced.
- Set the timer where you can see it, or where you can deliberately not see it.
2 While the timer runs
- When you notice you have drifted, do not restart the block. Just come back and carry on counting from where the timer is.
- If nothing is working, write badly on purpose for two minutes.
- If you are stuck, say the problem out loud. It changes what you can see.
- If you feel the urge to check something, write it on the paper beside you and keep going. Deal with the list afterwards.
3 When it ends
- Say the session is finished, out loud if you can. It marks the boundary.
- Stand up and move for at least two minutes. The break is part of the method, not a reward.
- Do not immediately open the thing you were avoiding. Give the block a proper end.
4What to put on
plain quiet — No added sound at all. If you have a quiet room, that is usually better than any recording of one.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
