25-minute focus session for reading with vinyl crackle, when you feel restless rather than tired
25 minutes on reading — pages rather than paragraphs. One pomodoro, long enough to get somewhere and short enough to start.
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Begin with the simple fact that you got here. That already happened. Restless is different from tired, and it needs a different approach. This works better when you don't overthink it.
1 Before you start
- Make sure your chair is at a height where your feet are flat on the floor.
- Decide that today's session does not have to be good. It has to happen.
- Put the thing you keep reaching for out of arm's reach.
- Accept that the first five minutes will feel like wading. Wading counts.
- Dim the screen slightly. Bright screens make long sessions harder than they need to be.
2 While the timer runs
- When you get an idea for something else, park it. Do not follow it.
- When you finish a piece, pause for three seconds before starting the next. It keeps the pace honest.
- If the task suddenly feels impossible, make it smaller rather than stopping. One paragraph. One function. One row.
- If you feel restless, change your posture rather than your task.
3 When it ends
- Say the session is finished, out loud if you can. It marks the boundary.
- Stand up and move for at least two minutes. The break is part of the method, not a reward.
- Leave the file open if you are coming back. Closing it makes restarting harder.
4What to put on
vinyl crackle — A thin layer of surface noise over nothing much. Just enough texture to stop the room feeling empty.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
If this block does not fit, try Deep work timer: 50 minutes of exam revision (a fan or air conditioner), when you have woken up too early, 45-minute focus block for admin and email — rain on a window, on a low-energy afternoon or 25-minute focus session for decluttering with vinyl crackle, after eating too much.
