50-minute focus block for planning — vinyl crackle, when your attention is scattered
A timer, a short prep list, and 50 minutes to decide what happens when.
50:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Loosen your grip on whatever you're holding, or imagine loosening it. Scattered attention is the raw material, not an obstacle. Keep it simple: breath in, breath out, notice.
1 Before you start
- Go to the toilet first. It sounds trivial until you are mid-sentence.
- Decide in advance that a bad sentence is still progress.
- Dim the screen slightly. Bright screens make long sessions harder than they need to be.
- Expect to want to stop at about the eight-minute mark. That is normal and it passes.
- Put your phone in another room, or in a drawer you cannot reach without standing up.
2 While the timer runs
- If nothing is working, write badly on purpose for two minutes.
- If you are bored, the boredom is usually the last thing before something clicks.
- If you feel restless, change your posture rather than your task.
- If a thought will not leave, give it one line on the page and return to the task.
3 When it ends
- Do not immediately open the thing you were avoiding. Give the block a proper end.
- Take the break away from the screen, even if it is just the other side of the room.
- Decide whether the next block is the same task or a different one. Do not drift into it.
4What to put on
vinyl crackle — A thin layer of surface noise over nothing much. Just enough texture to stop the room feeling empty.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
