About this practice
Nothing to learn and nothing to fix: 3 minutes of grounding for low energy, after bad news. A guided session of about 3 minutes, suited to all levels. Nothing is recorded and no account is needed.
What this works on: low energy
Low energy is a flat battery, not laziness. Pushing through it further drains reserves and produces worse work, faster.
It tends to show up as:
- Everything feeling like an effort
- Procrastinating on simple tasks
- Tiredness sitting deep in the body
A short practice will not restore the reserve, but it removes some of the tension that is draining it.
Doing this after bad news
- Do not make any decisions during it
- Let it be simple — you do not need to process anything today
- Tell one person where you are, even briefly
The first hours after bad news are not for planning. Deliberately doing nothing useful is the right move.
How grounding works
Grounding brings attention to physical contact and the immediate environment. It works on the principle that the body cannot be somewhere else, so contact with the surface you are on is always available as an anchor.
- Feel the contact points — feet, seat, back — and let them take your weight
- Use the senses deliberately: what you can see, hear, touch
- Return to solidity whenever attention drifts
What happens, minute by minute
- 0:00Your breathing doesn't have to change yet. Let it be whatever size it currently is.
- 0:14Press down slightly and feel the push back. Your body already knows where it is.
- 0:28Nothing here needs to be pleasant. Neutral is fine. Dull is fine.
- 0:41Let the breath be slow enough that you can hear it, just barely.
- 0:54Notice the small gap after each exhale. Rest there for half a second.
- 1:07Let your whole body be as heavy as it wants to be.
- 1:20Let the exhale carry a little of the effort everything takes with it. Not all of it. Just a little, one breath at a time.
- 1:39You do not have to solve the flat battery feeling in these few minutes. Your only job is to keep breathing while it is here.
- 1:58Feel the air move past your upper lip. It's the coolest spot on the way in.
- 2:13Say to yourself: this is uncomfortable, and I can stay with it for one more breath. Then take that breath.
- 2:30If you're replaying a conversation, let it play. It'll finish on its own.
- 2:43Come back to the solid things: weight, temperature, surface. They are always available.
- 2:56Give your hands a stretch before you go back to using them.
