Focus session for admin and email: 90 minutes, brown noise, if you have done this a hundred times
90 minutes of admin and email, with brown noise and a note on what to do when you drift.
90:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
If your legs are crossed, uncross them. Small changes count. If you have done this a hundred times, change one small thing tonight. Follow the instructions and let the rest look after itself.
1 Before you start
- Clear the surface in front of you down to the thing you are working on.
- Tell yourself the goal is time spent, not output produced.
- Turn off notifications for the next block, not just to silent.
- Lower the bar until starting feels almost silly, then start.
- Decide what counts as done for this block. "Two pages" is better than "make progress".
2 While the timer runs
- Notice whether you are working or performing work. They look similar from the outside.
- If you are bored, the boredom is usually the last thing before something clicks.
- If you feel restless, change your posture rather than your task.
- If your attention keeps sliding, shorten the next block rather than abandoning this one.
3 When it ends
- Do not immediately open the thing you were avoiding. Give the block a proper end.
- Stand up and move for at least two minutes. The break is part of the method, not a reward.
- If it went badly, note one thing that worked anyway. There is usually one.
4What to put on
brown noise — Lower and softer than white noise, closer to a waterfall heard from a distance. Good if white noise feels too hissy.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
