A 45-minute block for design work, with vinyl crackle, if you are fitting this around other people
A single 45-minute block for design work — rough versions first.
45:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Notice the temperature of the air on the backs of your hands. It is designed to fit around other people’s schedules. No preamble. We start with the body.
1 Before you start
- Clear the surface in front of you down to the thing you are working on.
- Give yourself permission to stop when the timer ends, even mid-sentence.
- Have a piece of paper beside you for the thoughts that will try to interrupt.
- Lower the bar until starting feels almost silly, then start.
- Put the thing you keep reaching for out of arm's reach.
2 While the timer runs
- Notice the moment your hand moves toward your phone. That moment is the whole skill.
- When you get an idea for something else, park it. Do not follow it.
- If you are stuck, say the problem out loud. It changes what you can see.
- If you feel the urge to check something, write it on the paper beside you and keep going. Deal with the list afterwards.
3 When it ends
- Note what you actually got done, not what you meant to get done.
- Have a drink of water before you check anything.
- Roll your shoulders and your neck before the next block.
4What to put on
vinyl crackle — A thin layer of surface noise over nothing much. Just enough texture to stop the room feeling empty.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
