25-minute focus session for language practice with a fan or air conditioner, when nothing else has worked today
25 minutes on language practice — repetition rather than novelty. One pomodoro, long enough to get somewhere and short enough to start.
25:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Notice the temperature of the air on the backs of your hands. Nothing else has worked today. That is not a reason to skip this. Straight through, at a normal pace.
1 Before you start
- Have a piece of paper beside you for the thoughts that will try to interrupt.
- Remember that motivation usually arrives after starting, not before.
- Make sure your chair is at a height where your feet are flat on the floor.
- Give yourself permission to stop when the timer ends, even mid-sentence.
- Get water now, so you do not have to get up in fifteen minutes.
2 While the timer runs
- When you have drifted for the fifth time, that is still four returns. Keep going.
- When you finish a piece, pause for three seconds before starting the next. It keeps the pace honest.
- If nothing is working, write badly on purpose for two minutes.
- Notice whether you are working or performing work. They look similar from the outside.
3 When it ends
- Roll your shoulders and your neck before the next block.
- Note what you actually got done, not what you meant to get done.
- Decide whether the next block is the same task or a different one. Do not drift into it.
4What to put on
a fan or air conditioner — A constant mechanical hum with no variation. The lack of change is the point — nothing in it asks for your attention.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
