90-minute drawing session with vinyl crackle and a timer, when nothing else has worked today

Sit down, press start, and fill the page for 90 minutes. One full ultradian cycle, for work that needs a long runway.

90:00

Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.

Sit however you were already sitting. You don't have to straighten up first. Nothing else has worked today. That is not a reason to skip this. Follow the instructions and let the rest look after itself.

1 Before you start

  • Take one slow breath before you press start, so the session has a beginning.
  • Tell yourself the goal is time spent, not output produced.
  • Dim the screen slightly. Bright screens make long sessions harder than they need to be.
  • Give yourself permission to stop when the timer ends, even mid-sentence.
  • Make sure your chair is at a height where your feet are flat on the floor.

2 While the timer runs

  • When you have drifted for the fifth time, that is still four returns. Keep going.
  • Notice whether you are working or performing work. They look similar from the outside.
  • If you feel restless, change your posture rather than your task.
  • It is fine to stare at the wall for a minute. That is often where the answer is.

3 When it ends

  • Decide whether the next block is the same task or a different one. Do not drift into it.
  • Roll your shoulders and your neck before the next block.
  • Leave the file open if you are coming back. Closing it makes restarting harder.

4What to put on

vinyl crackle — A thin layer of surface noise over nothing much. Just enough texture to stop the room feeling empty.

This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
