About this practice
A 3-minute letting go session for guilt, before an interview. No app, no account — press start. A guided session of about 3 minutes, suited to all levels. Nothing is recorded and no account is needed.
What this works on: guilt
Guilt replays past choices to try to change them. The replay cannot alter the outcome, so the relief never arrives.
It tends to show up as:
- Replaying decisions you cannot undo
- Apologising for things long since settled
- Feeling you owe something unnamed
This is not a practice for absolution. It is a place to put the weight down for a few minutes, which makes it easier to carry after.
Doing this before an interview
- Do it where you will not be interrupted, even if that is a stairwell
- Have the first sentence of your answer ready afterwards
- Keep it short — there is no time for a long session
Nerves before an interview are normal and not something to eliminate. You need access to what you know, nothing more.
How letting go works
Letting go is about loosening grip rather than dropping things. It works on the effort attached to a problem — the holding, rehearsing and bracing — which is separable from the problem itself.
- Pick one thing you are gripping and loosen a single finger
- Release the effort with the exhale, not the issue
- Set down temporarily; you can pick it up again after
What happens, minute by minute
- 0:00Notice where your body touches the chair. That contact is doing more for you than it looks.
- 0:15Ask yourself what you could stop holding for the next sixty seconds. That one is a good start.
- 0:31Let your breathing find its own pace. We're only going to watch it.
- 0:44Follow one full breath from the moment it starts to the moment it ends.
- 0:58Notice the breath you're taking right now. That's the only one that exists.
- 1:11Feel your palms. Warm or cool, either is fine.
- 1:22Picture the self-blame that lingers as a weather front passing over. You are not the weather. You are the sky it moves through.
- 1:40If the weight of what you should have done starts telling you a story, let the story finish without you adding to it.
- 1:58Notice your breathing getting quieter on its own, without you deciding anything.
- 2:11There is no correct amount of the replay of past choices to be feeling right now. Whatever is here is the honest amount.
- 2:29Notice if you're waiting for something to happen. Nothing is scheduled.
- 2:41Pick one thing you are gripping — a plan, a worry, a grudge — and loosen a single finger.
- 2:57Let the pace of the last few minutes set the pace of the next few.
