Focus session for studying: 25 minutes, a library, when you are waiting for something

25 minutes of studying, with a library and a note on what to do when you drift.

25:00

Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.

Let your shoulders drop about a centimetre. That is roughly where most of us keep the day. Waiting is dead time you can spend on this instead. No preamble. We start with the body.

1 Before you start

  • Put your phone in another room, or in a drawer you cannot reach without standing up.
  • Remind yourself that you are allowed to produce something mediocre in the first pass.
  • Turn off notifications for the next block, not just to silent.
  • Give yourself permission to stop when the timer ends, even mid-sentence.
  • Clear the surface in front of you down to the thing you are working on.

2 While the timer runs

  • If a thought will not leave, give it one line on the page and return to the task.
  • If you feel restless, change your posture rather than your task.
  • If you are stuck, say the problem out loud. It changes what you can see.
  • Notice the moment your hand moves toward your phone. That moment is the whole skill.

3 When it ends

  • Do not immediately open the thing you were avoiding. Give the block a proper end.
  • Stand up and move for at least two minutes. The break is part of the method, not a reward.
  • Say the session is finished, out loud if you can. It marks the boundary.

4What to put on

a library — Almost nothing: distant footsteps, a chair, a page turning. Useful if you want the feeling of a room where work is normal.

This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
