Focus session for drawing: 25 minutes, a fan or air conditioner, when you feel restless rather than tired

25 minutes of drawing, with a fan or air conditioner and a note on what to do when you drift.

25:00

Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.

Notice the heaviest part of your body right now. Let it be heavy. Restless is different from tired, and it needs a different approach. This is a short one, so let's use the time properly.

1 Before you start

  • Get water now, so you do not have to get up in fifteen minutes.
  • Remember that motivation usually arrives after starting, not before.
  • Put your phone in another room, or in a drawer you cannot reach without standing up.
  • If you are dreading it, make the first action physical: open the file, sharpen the pencil.
  • Decide what counts as done for this block. "Two pages" is better than "make progress".

2 While the timer runs

  • When you finish a piece, pause for three seconds before starting the next. It keeps the pace honest.
  • When you have drifted for the fifth time, that is still four returns. Keep going.
  • If you are suddenly sleepy, stand up for ten seconds and sit back down.
  • If the task suddenly feels impossible, make it smaller rather than stopping. One paragraph. One function. One row.

3 When it ends

  • Put the notes you made where you will find them next time.
  • Leave the file open if you are coming back. Closing it makes restarting harder.
  • Resist the urge to review the work straight away. Come back to it later with fresh eyes.

4What to put on

a fan or air conditioner — A constant mechanical hum with no variation. The lack of change is the point — nothing in it asks for your attention.

This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
