Focus session for design work: 25 minutes, forest at dusk, after eating too much
25 minutes of design work, with forest at dusk and a note on what to do when you drift.
25:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Sit however you were already sitting. You don't have to straighten up first. Do this sitting up, not lying down, if you have just eaten. No preamble. We start with the body.
1 Before you start
- Make sure your chair is at a height where your feet are flat on the floor.
- Decide what you will do if you get stuck: write the problem out, then move on.
- Set the timer where you can see it, or where you can deliberately not see it.
- If your mind is already racing, write down the three loudest thoughts before you begin.
- Turn off notifications for the next block, not just to silent.
2 While the timer runs
- The first urge to stop usually arrives early. Sit through it once and the second one is quieter.
- Notice the moment your hand moves toward your phone. That moment is the whole skill.
- If you are bored, the boredom is usually the last thing before something clicks.
- If you feel the urge to check something, write it on the paper beside you and keep going. Deal with the list afterwards.
3 When it ends
- Write one line about where to start next time. Future you will be grateful.
- Take the break away from the screen, even if it is just the other side of the room.
- Roll your shoulders and your neck before the next block.
4What to put on
forest at dusk — Birds settling, leaves moving, nothing sudden. It works because it sounds like a place you can safely ignore.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
