Focus session for admin and email: 25 minutes, café murmur, when you have already had a long week
25 minutes of admin and email, with café murmur and a note on what to do when you drift.
25:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Part of you is still in the last conversation you had. That's fine. It can sit here too. Long weeks are cumulative. This is a small subtraction. Keep it simple: breath in, breath out, notice.
1 Before you start
- Decide what counts as done for this block. "Two pages" is better than "make progress".
- Let go of the version of this task you imagined doing perfectly.
- Go to the toilet first. It sounds trivial until you are mid-sentence.
- Promise yourself you will not check anything until the timer ends, including "just quickly".
- Get water now, so you do not have to get up in fifteen minutes.
2 While the timer runs
- If you start tidying your desk, that is avoidance. Sit back down.
- If a thought will not leave, give it one line on the page and return to the task.
- If you feel restless, change your posture rather than your task.
- When the timer feels too long, look at it less. The clock is not the task.
3 When it ends
- Put the notes you made where you will find them next time.
- Leave the file open if you are coming back. Closing it makes restarting harder.
- Leave the desk tidier than you found it. Two minutes now saves ten later.
4What to put on
café murmur — The blur of other people talking, with none of the words close enough to follow. Some people concentrate better with a low level of company.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
