A 50-minute block for portfolio work, with distant thunder, if you are tired of apps
A single 50-minute block for portfolio work — the last ten percent.
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Part of you is still in the last conversation you had. That's fine. It can sit here too. No account, no streak, no notification asking how you feel. Follow the instructions and let the rest look after itself.
1 Before you start
- Write down the one thing you are going to do, in a single sentence, before you start.
- Tell yourself the goal is time spent, not output produced.
- Take one slow breath before you press start, so the session has a beginning.
- Promise yourself you will not check anything until the timer ends, including "just quickly".
- Get water now, so you do not have to get up in fifteen minutes.
2 While the timer runs
- When the timer feels too long, look at it less. The clock is not the task.
- If you are suddenly sleepy, stand up for ten seconds and sit back down.
- When you finish a piece, pause for three seconds before starting the next. It keeps the pace honest.
- Notice whether you are working or performing work. They look similar from the outside.
3 When it ends
- Take the break away from the screen, even if it is just the other side of the room.
- Roll your shoulders and your neck before the next block.
- Put the notes you made where you will find them next time.
4What to put on
distant thunder — Low rumbles with long gaps. Suits people who find sudden noises more distracting than constant ones.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
If this block does not fit, try A 45-minute block for drawing, with a fireplace, when you are not sure this will work, 45-minute brainstorming session with white noise and a timer, before you go back to something hard or A 25-minute block for planning, with rain on a window, before you go back to something hard.
