A 25-minute block for planning, with rain on a window, before you go back to something hard

A single 25-minute block for planning — on paper, so you can see it.

25:00

Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.

Notice the heaviest part of your body right now. Let it be heavy. Five minutes here is cheaper than an hour of grinding. We'll be efficient and then you can get on with your day.

1 Before you start

  • Have a piece of paper beside you for the thoughts that will try to interrupt.
  • Expect to want to stop at about the eight-minute mark. That is normal and it passes.
  • Close every tab that is not needed for this one task. Not minimised — closed.
  • If your mind is already racing, write down the three loudest thoughts before you begin.
  • Dim the screen slightly. Bright screens make long sessions harder than they need to be.

2 While the timer runs

  • When the timer feels too long, look at it less. The clock is not the task.
  • If you are bored, the boredom is usually the last thing before something clicks.
  • Notice whether you are working or performing work. They look similar from the outside.
  • When you get an idea for something else, park it. Do not follow it.

3 When it ends

  • Roll your shoulders and your neck before the next block.
  • Do not immediately open the thing you were avoiding. Give the block a proper end.
  • Take the break away from the screen, even if it is just the other side of the room.

4What to put on

rain on a window — Steady rain is broadband noise with a slow natural rhythm. It masks speech and keyboard clatter without being interesting enough to listen to.

This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
