A 45-minute block for drawing, with birds at dawn, when the weather has kept you inside
A single 45-minute block for drawing — without correcting anything yet.
45:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Sit however you were already sitting. You don't have to straighten up first. Bad weather is a decent excuse to stay in and do this. Straight through, at a normal pace.
1 Before you start
- Get water now, so you do not have to get up in fifteen minutes.
- Accept that the first five minutes will feel like wading. Wading counts.
- Make sure your chair is at a height where your feet are flat on the floor.
- Plan to leave the last two minutes for writing down where to pick up next time.
- Close every tab that is not needed for this one task. Not minimised — closed.
2 While the timer runs
- If the task suddenly feels impossible, make it smaller rather than stopping. One paragraph. One function. One row.
- If you feel restless, change your posture rather than your task.
- If you start tidying your desk, that is avoidance. Sit back down.
- When the timer feels too long, look at it less. The clock is not the task.
3 When it ends
- If it went badly, note one thing that worked anyway. There is usually one.
- Note what you actually got done, not what you meant to get done.
- Put the notes you made where you will find them next time.
4What to put on
birds at dawn — Bright but not sharp. Better for early sessions than for late ones.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
