A 25-minute block for language practice, with café murmur, when you are not in the mood
A single 25-minute block for language practice — repetition rather than novelty.
25:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Let the floor take your weight through your feet, and stop holding yourself up for a second. Not being in the mood is a normal starting point. Keep it simple: breath in, breath out, notice.
1 Before you start
- Go to the toilet first. It sounds trivial until you are mid-sentence.
- Accept that the first five minutes will feel like wading. Wading counts.
- Clear the surface in front of you down to the thing you are working on.
- Let go of the version of this task you imagined doing perfectly.
- Put the thing you keep reaching for out of arm's reach.
2 While the timer runs
- If you start tidying your desk, that is avoidance. Sit back down.
- It is fine to stare at the wall for a minute. That is often where the answer is.
- If you are stuck, say the problem out loud. It changes what you can see.
- Notice the moment your hand moves toward your phone. That moment is the whole skill.
3 When it ends
- Write one line about where to start next time. Future you will be grateful.
- Have a drink of water before you check anything.
- Resist the urge to review the work straight away. Come back to it later with fresh eyes.
4What to put on
café murmur — The blur of other people talking, with none of the words close enough to follow. Some people concentrate better with a low level of company.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
