Focus session · data work · 50 min
50-minute focus block for data work — white noise, when you need something unremarkable
A timer, a short prep list, and 50 minutes to work through the numbers.
50:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Turn your phone face down if it's within reach. If it's in another room, even better. Nothing dramatic happens here, and that is deliberate. This is a short one, so let's use the time properly.
1 Before you start
- Get water now, so you do not have to get up in fifteen minutes.
- Lower the bar until starting feels almost silly, then start.
- Go to the toilet first. It sounds trivial until you are mid-sentence.
- Decide in advance that a bad sentence is still progress.
- Close every tab that is not needed for this one task. Not minimised — closed.
2 While the timer runs
- If you are stuck, say the problem out loud. It changes what you can see.
- Notice whether you are working or performing work. They look similar from the outside.
- If a thought will not leave, give it one line on the page and return to the task.
- It is fine to stare at the wall for a minute. That is often where the answer is.
3 When it ends
- Look out of a window for thirty seconds. Your eyes have been at one distance for a while.
- Leave the desk tidier than you found it. Two minutes now saves ten later.
- Say the session is finished, out loud if you can. It marks the boundary.
4What to put on
white noise — Flat across all frequencies and very effective at covering speech. Some people find it harsh after an hour; keep the volume low.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
