Focus session · exam revision · 90 min
90-minute focus session for exam revision with a library, if you are doing this instead of scrolling
90 minutes on exam revision — recall rather than re-reading. One full ultradian cycle, for work that needs a long runway.
90:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
If you're tired, you can let that be true. Tired is allowed here. Choosing this over scrolling counts as a good decision, even a small one. This is a short one, so let's use the time properly.
1 Before you start
- Decide now what you will do when the timer ends. Otherwise the decision will eat the first five minutes.
- Remember that motivation usually arrives after starting, not before.
- Put the thing you keep reaching for out of arm's reach.
- Tell yourself the goal is time spent, not output produced.
- Turn off notifications for the next block, not just to silent.
2 While the timer runs
- If nothing is working, write badly on purpose for two minutes.
- If you are bored, the boredom is usually the last thing before something clicks.
- When you finish a piece, pause for three seconds before starting the next. It keeps the pace honest.
- If you feel restless, change your posture rather than your task.
3 When it ends
- Do not immediately open the thing you were avoiding. Give the block a proper end.
- Stand up and move for at least two minutes. The break is part of the method, not a reward.
- Look out of a window for thirty seconds. Your eyes have been at one distance for a while.
4What to put on
a library — Almost nothing: distant footsteps, a chair, a page turning. Useful if you want the feeling of a room where work is normal.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
