Focus session · exam revision · 45 min
45-minute focus block for exam revision — plain quiet, when you have tried everything else
A timer, a short prep list, and 45 minutes to test yourself.
45:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
If you're lying down, let the mattress hold all of you. You can stop holding yourself up. This assumes you have already tried the obvious things. Follow the instructions and let the rest look after itself.
1 Before you start
- Close the door, or put headphones on, whichever signals "working" to the people around you.
- Decide that today's session does not have to be good. It has to happen.
- Have a piece of paper beside you for the thoughts that will try to interrupt.
- Accept that the first five minutes will feel like wading. Wading counts.
- Close every tab that is not needed for this one task. Not minimised — closed.
2 While the timer runs
- If you feel restless, change your posture rather than your task.
- When you notice you have drifted, do not restart the block. Just come back and carry on counting from where the timer is.
- When you get an idea for something else, park it. Do not follow it.
- If you feel the urge to check something, write it on the paper beside you and keep going. Deal with the list afterwards.
3 When it ends
- If it went badly, note one thing that worked anyway. There is usually one.
- Leave the desk tidier than you found it. Two minutes now saves ten later.
- Put the notes you made where you will find them next time.
4What to put on
plain quiet — No added sound at all. If you have a quiet room, that is usually better than any recording of one.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
