25-minute exam revision session with distant traffic and a timer, when you have woken up too early

Sit down, press start, and test yourself for 25 minutes. One pomodoro, long enough to get somewhere and short enough to start.

25:00

Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.

If your legs are crossed, uncross them. Small changes count. Waking too early is a specific kind of frustrating. This helps with the frustration. Straight through, at a normal pace.

1 Before you start

  • Make sure your chair is at a height where your feet are flat on the floor.
  • If your mind is already racing, write down the three loudest thoughts before you begin.
  • Clear the surface in front of you down to the thing you are working on.
  • Expect to want to stop at about the eight-minute mark. That is normal and it passes.
  • Put your phone in another room, or in a drawer you cannot reach without standing up.

2 While the timer runs

  • When you catch yourself re-reading the same sentence, stop and write down what you were looking for.
  • When the timer feels too long, look at it less. The clock is not the task.
  • It is fine to stare at the wall for a minute. That is often where the answer is.
  • If you are suddenly sleepy, stand up for ten seconds and sit back down.

3 When it ends

  • Do not immediately open the thing you were avoiding. Give the block a proper end.
  • Write down the question you could not answer, so it has somewhere to live.
  • Take the break away from the screen, even if it is just the other side of the room.

4What to put on

distant traffic — A low continuous wash from a road you are not on. Familiar and easy to stop hearing.

This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
