About this practice
A 7-minute grounding session for low energy, after work. No app, no account — press start. A guided session of about 7 minutes, suited to all levels. Nothing is recorded and no account is needed.
What this works on: low energy
Low energy is a flat battery, not laziness. Pushing through it further drains reserves and produces worse work, faster.
It tends to show up as:
- Everything feeling like an effort
- Procrastinating on simple tasks
- Tiredness sitting deep in the body
A short practice will not restore the reserve, but it removes some of the tension that is draining it.
Doing this after work
- Change something physical first — shoes off, coat off — so the transition registers
- Do it before picking up the evening tasks
- Aim to end it fully, not just stop
Without a marker, work follows you into the evening. The session is the marker.
How grounding works
Grounding brings attention to physical contact and the immediate environment. It works on the principle that the body cannot be somewhere else, so contact with the surface you are on is always available as an anchor.
- Feel the contact points — feet, seat, back — and let them take your weight
- Use the senses deliberately: what you can see, hear, touch
- Return to solidity whenever attention drifts
What happens, minute by minute
- 0:00Let the floor take your weight through your feet, and stop holding yourself up for a second.
- 0:15Feel the contact points — feet, seat, back. That contact is the whole anchor.
- 0:29Now let your attention move from the room into your body, slowly, the way you'd move through a doorway you know well.
- 0:47Let your attention rest on the out-breath. The in-breath can take care of itself.
- 1:01Let your ribs widen on the in-breath instead of your shoulders lifting.
- 1:14Let your shoulders stay still while your ribs move.
- 1:25Feel your palms. Warm or cool, either is fine.
- 1:36Notice your ears, which mostly just receive things.
- 1:47Feel the outline of yourself, from the top of your head to your heels.
- 2:01Notice how the flat battery feeling changes shape when you stop resisting it. Usually it gets smaller, not bigger.
- 2:17You do not have to solve the tiredness that sits in the bones in these few minutes. Your only job is to keep breathing while it is here.
- 2:37Feel your upper arms hanging. They're heavier than you remember.
- 2:49Remain here for a few more breaths.
- 2:59Feel your breath move down your back, all the way to your lower ribs.
- 3:13Notice the pull to make this mean something. It doesn't have to.
- 3:26A short silence. Let it be empty.
- 3:36Come back to the solid things: weight, temperature, surface. They are always available.
- 3:49Notice any tension that arrived while you weren't looking.
- 4:00Notice your breathing getting quieter on its own, without you deciding anything.
- 4:13Silence for a few breaths. Nothing to do in it.
- 4:25When the effort everything takes arrives, name it once, quietly, and go back to the breath. Naming is not fixing, and that is fine.
- 4:44Imagine softening the edges of the flat battery feeling. Not erasing it, just letting the sharp parts go a degree softer.
- 5:01Notice the difference between the breath at the front of your nose and the breath in your chest.
- 5:17If you've lost track of where we were, you haven't lost anything important.
- 5:30If you feel emotional, you don't have to explain it to anyone, including yourself.
- 5:44I'll step back. You stay here.
- 5:54The floor is holding you right now. You do not have to hold yourself up.
- 6:08Before you open your eyes, notice how you feel compared to the start. It might be small.
- 6:23If you're going straight back to work, take ten seconds at the doorway first.
- 6:37Let the pause stretch out.
