Focus session for studying: 25 minutes, rain on a window, when the weather has kept you inside
25 minutes of studying, with rain on a window and a note on what to do when you drift.
25:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Let the floor take your weight through your feet, and stop holding yourself up for a second. Bad weather is a decent excuse to stay in and do this. Keep it simple: breath in, breath out, notice.
1 Before you start
- Take one slow breath before you press start, so the session has a beginning.
- If your mind is already racing, write down the three loudest thoughts before you begin.
- Close the door, or put headphones on, whichever signals "working" to the people around you.
- Accept that the first five minutes will feel like wading. Wading counts.
- Dim the screen slightly. Bright screens make long sessions harder than they need to be.
2 While the timer runs
- If you are bored, the boredom is usually the last thing before something clicks.
- When you have drifted for the fifth time, that is still four returns. Keep going.
- If you feel restless, change your posture rather than your task.
- When you notice you have drifted, do not restart the block. Just come back and carry on counting from where the timer is.
3 When it ends
- Write down the question you could not answer, so it has somewhere to live.
- Roll your shoulders and your neck before the next block.
- Say the session is finished, out loud if you can. It marks the boundary.
4What to put on
rain on a window — Steady rain is broadband noise with a slow natural rhythm. It masks speech and keyboard clatter without being interesting enough to listen to.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
