Focus session for problem solving: 45 minutes, birds at dawn, when you only have a few minutes
45 minutes of problem solving, with birds at dawn and a note on what to do when you drift.
45:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Let your forehead smooth out. Most of us hold a small frown there all day. A few minutes is the whole requirement. Follow the instructions and let the rest look after itself.
1 Before you start
- Set the timer where you can see it, or where you can deliberately not see it.
- Remind yourself that you are allowed to produce something mediocre in the first pass.
- Dim the screen slightly. Bright screens make long sessions harder than they need to be.
- Plan to leave the last two minutes for writing down where to pick up next time.
- Turn off notifications for the next block, not just to silent.
2 While the timer runs
- If you feel restless, change your posture rather than your task.
- When you finish a piece, pause for three seconds before starting the next. It keeps the pace honest.
- It is fine to stare at the wall for a minute. That is often where the answer is.
- When you get an idea for something else, park it. Do not follow it.
3 When it ends
- Roll your shoulders and your neck before the next block.
- If it went badly, note one thing that worked anyway. There is usually one.
- Have a drink of water before you check anything.
4What to put on
birds at dawn — Bright but not sharp. Better for early sessions than for late ones.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
