Focus session for language practice: 25 minutes, white noise, if you are new to this
25 minutes of language practice, with white noise and a note on what to do when you drift.
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Let the first out-breath be longer than the in-breath. Nothing dramatic, just longer. Nothing here assumes you have done this before. No preamble. We start with the body.
1 Before you start
- Close every tab that is not needed for this one task. Not minimised — closed.
- Plan to leave the last two minutes for writing down where to pick up next time.
- Dim the screen slightly. Bright screens make long sessions harder than they need to be.
- Tell yourself the goal is time spent, not output produced.
- Put the thing you keep reaching for out of arm's reach.
2 While the timer runs
- When you catch yourself re-reading the same sentence, stop and write down what you were looking for.
- It is fine to stare at the wall for a minute. That is often where the answer is.
- If you are bored, the boredom is usually the last thing before something clicks.
- Notice whether you are working or performing work. They look similar from the outside.
3 When it ends
- Write one line about where to start next time. Future you will be grateful.
- Resist the urge to review the work straight away. Come back to it later with fresh eyes.
- Leave the desk tidier than you found it. Two minutes now saves ten later.
4What to put on
white noise — Flat across all frequencies and very effective at covering speech. Some people find it harsh after an hour; keep the volume low.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
