Focus session for exam revision: 50 minutes, brown noise, if you are doing this instead of scrolling
50 minutes of exam revision, with brown noise and a note on what to do when you drift.
50:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Let your eyes soften. Not closed, just less busy. Choosing this over scrolling counts as a good decision, even a small one. No preamble. We start with the body.
1 Before you start
- Write down the one thing you are going to do, in a single sentence, before you start.
- Tell yourself the goal is time spent, not output produced.
- Close every tab that is not needed for this one task. Not minimised — closed.
- Promise yourself you will not check anything until the timer ends, including "just quickly".
- Put your phone in another room, or in a drawer you cannot reach without standing up.
2 While the timer runs
- If you are bored, the boredom is usually the last thing before something clicks.
- When you have drifted for the fifth time, that is still four returns. Keep going.
- If your attention keeps sliding, shorten the next block rather than abandoning this one.
- It is fine to stare at the wall for a minute. That is often where the answer is.
3 When it ends
- Leave the desk tidier than you found it. Two minutes now saves ten later.
- Roll your shoulders and your neck before the next block.
- Note what you actually got done, not what you meant to get done.
4What to put on
brown noise — Lower and softer than white noise, closer to a waterfall heard from a distance. Good if white noise feels too hissy.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
