A 25-minute block for writing, with forest at dusk, when you are somewhere noisy
A single 25-minute block for writing — the first draft, not the good version.
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
There is nothing to get right here. Nothing is being scored. Noise is fine. You are not trying to hear anything subtle. We'll go through it in order, without much decoration.
1 Before you start
- Put the thing you keep reaching for out of arm's reach.
- Decide in advance that a bad sentence is still progress.
- Get water now, so you do not have to get up in fifteen minutes.
- Tell yourself the goal is time spent, not output produced.
- Make sure your chair is at a height where your feet are flat on the floor.
2 While the timer runs
- When you finish a piece, pause for three seconds before starting the next. It keeps the pace honest.
- If you feel restless, change your posture rather than your task.
- If your attention keeps sliding, shorten the next block rather than abandoning this one.
- When you have drifted for the fifth time, that is still four returns. Keep going.
3 When it ends
- Resist the urge to review the work straight away. Come back to it later with fresh eyes.
- Do not immediately open the thing you were avoiding. Give the block a proper end.
- Have a drink of water before you check anything.
4What to put on
forest at dusk — Birds settling, leaves moving, nothing sudden. It works because it sounds like a place you can safely ignore.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
If this block does not fit, try 90-minute focus session for research with vinyl crackle, after a long day, 25-minute problem solving session with rain on a window and a timer, when you want something simple or 45-minute reading session with café murmur and a timer, when you are at home and cannot settle.
