A 25-minute block for reading, with plain quiet, when the weather has kept you inside
A single 25-minute block for reading — pages rather than paragraphs.
25:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Drop your attention from your head into your chest for a second. Bad weather is a decent excuse to stay in and do this. No preamble. We start with the body.
1 Before you start
- Put the thing you keep reaching for out of arm's reach.
- Decide in advance that a bad sentence is still progress.
- Close the door, or put headphones on, whichever signals "working" to the people around you.
- If you are dreading it, make the first action physical: open the file, sharpen the pencil.
- Decide what counts as done for this block. "Two pages" is better than "make progress".
2 While the timer runs
- If you are bored, the boredom is usually the last thing before something clicks.
- When you catch yourself re-reading the same sentence, stop and write down what you were looking for.
- When the timer feels too long, look at it less. The clock is not the task.
- If nothing is working, write badly on purpose for two minutes.
3 When it ends
- Have a drink of water before you check anything.
- Resist the urge to review the work straight away. Come back to it later with fresh eyes.
- Put the notes you made where you will find them next time.
4What to put on
plain quiet — No added sound at all. If you have a quiet room, that is usually better than any recording of one.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
