90-minute focus session for decluttering with a train carriage, when you are cold and want to be warm

90 minutes on decluttering — one surface at a time. One full ultradian cycle, for work that needs a long runway.

90:00

Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.

Check your hands. Are they doing anything? Let them stop. Get a blanket first. Being cold defeats the point. No preamble. We start with the body.

1 Before you start

  • Make sure your chair is at a height where your feet are flat on the floor.
  • Lower the bar until starting feels almost silly, then start.
  • Decide what counts as done for this block. "Two pages" is better than "make progress".
  • Remember that motivation usually arrives after starting, not before.
  • Go to the toilet first. It sounds trivial until you are mid-sentence.

2 While the timer runs

  • Notice whether you are working or performing work. They look similar from the outside.
  • The first urge to stop usually arrives early. Sit through it once and the second one is quieter.
  • It is fine to stare at the wall for a minute. That is often where the answer is.
  • If you are bored, the boredom is usually the last thing before something clicks.

3 When it ends

  • Decide whether the next block is the same task or a different one. Do not drift into it.
  • Say the session is finished, out loud if you can. It marks the boundary.
  • Stand up and move for at least two minutes. The break is part of the method, not a reward.

4What to put on

a train carriage — Rhythmic, low, and slightly rumbly. Many people find the motion-and-noise combination easier to work to than silence.

This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
