90-minute focus session for coding with birds at dawn, when you are doing this for the first time
90 minutes on coding — one function at a time, not the whole system. One full ultradian cycle, for work that needs a long runway.
90:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Let the first out-breath be longer than the in-breath. Nothing dramatic, just longer. If this is your first go, stay with the plainest version of the instructions. This is a short one, so let's use the time properly.
1 Before you start
- Get water now, so you do not have to get up in fifteen minutes.
- Plan to leave the last two minutes for writing down where to pick up next time.
- Have a piece of paper beside you for the thoughts that will try to interrupt.
- If you are dreading it, make the first action physical: open the file, sharpen the pencil.
- Turn off notifications for the next block, not just to silent.
2 While the timer runs
- When the timer feels too long, look at it less. The clock is not the task.
- When you finish a piece, pause for three seconds before starting the next. It keeps the pace honest.
- If you are stuck, say the problem out loud. It changes what you can see.
- Notice the moment your hand moves toward your phone. That moment is the whole skill.
3 When it ends
- Take the break away from the screen, even if it is just the other side of the room.
- Decide whether the next block is the same task or a different one. Do not drift into it.
- Leave the file open if you are coming back. Closing it makes restarting harder.
4What to put on
birds at dawn — Bright but not sharp. Better for early sessions than for late ones.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
