90-minute exam revision session with forest at dusk and a timer, if you are tired of apps
Sit down, press start, and test yourself for 90 minutes. One full ultradian cycle, for work that needs a long runway.
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Turn your phone face down if it's within reach. If it's in another room, even better. No account, no streak, no notification asking how you feel. This is a short one, so let's use the time properly.
1 Before you start
- Have a piece of paper beside you for the thoughts that will try to interrupt.
- Decide in advance that a bad sentence is still progress.
- Clear the surface in front of you down to the thing you are working on.
- Decide what you will do if you get stuck: write the problem out, then move on.
- Write down the one thing you are going to do, in a single sentence, before you start.
2 While the timer runs
- If your attention keeps sliding, shorten the next block rather than abandoning this one.
- If nothing is working, write badly on purpose for two minutes.
- When you get an idea for something else, park it. Do not follow it.
- When you finish a piece, pause for three seconds before starting the next. It keeps the pace honest.
3 When it ends
- Put the notes you made where you will find them next time.
- Have a drink of water before you check anything.
- Decide whether the next block is the same task or a different one. Do not drift into it.
4What to put on
forest at dusk — Birds settling, leaves moving, nothing sudden. It works because it sounds like a place you can safely ignore.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
If this block does not fit, try 90-minute drawing session with a library and a timer, when the house is busy, Focus session for applications and forms: 25 minutes, brown noise, when you need something unremarkable or Focus session for language practice: 90 minutes, distant traffic, when the house is busy.
