45-minute focus block for language practice — a fireplace, when you are not in the mood
A timer, a short prep list, and 45 minutes to practise out loud.
45:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Let your shoulders drop about a centimetre. That is roughly where most of us keep the day. Not being in the mood is a normal starting point. This is a short one, so let's use the time properly.
1 Before you start
- Get water now, so you do not have to get up in fifteen minutes.
- Remember that motivation usually arrives after starting, not before.
- Close every tab that is not needed for this one task. Not minimised — closed.
- Decide that today's session does not have to be good. It has to happen.
- Go to the toilet first. It sounds trivial until you are mid-sentence.
2 While the timer runs
- If your attention keeps sliding, shorten the next block rather than abandoning this one.
- If you feel restless, change your posture rather than your task.
- If the task suddenly feels impossible, make it smaller rather than stopping. One paragraph. One function. One row.
- When you get an idea for something else, park it. Do not follow it.
3 When it ends
- Roll your shoulders and your neck before the next block.
- Say the session is finished, out loud if you can. It marks the boundary.
- Leave the file open if you are coming back. Closing it makes restarting harder.
4What to put on
a fireplace — Crackles and a low roar underneath. Warm, irregular, and undemanding.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
