50-minute language practice session with plain quiet and a timer, before something difficult
Sit down, press start, and practise out loud for 50 minutes. Fifty minutes, the length of a therapy hour, with ten minutes off afterwards.
50:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
You don't have to empty your mind. Nobody has ever managed that, including the people who wrote the instructions. It works best in the hour before something difficult. This works better when you don't overthink it.
1 Before you start
- Set the timer where you can see it, or where you can deliberately not see it.
- If you are dreading it, make the first action physical: open the file, sharpen the pencil.
- Dim the screen slightly. Bright screens make long sessions harder than they need to be.
- Choose one question to answer in this block, rather than a whole subject to cover.
- Close every tab that is not needed for this one task. Not minimised — closed.
2 While the timer runs
- If you are suddenly sleepy, stand up for ten seconds and sit back down.
- It is fine to stare at the wall for a minute. That is often where the answer is.
- If your attention keeps sliding, shorten the next block rather than abandoning this one.
- When you finish a piece, pause for three seconds before starting the next. It keeps the pace honest.
3 When it ends
- Write one line about where to start next time. Future you will be grateful.
- Say the session is finished, out loud if you can. It marks the boundary.
- Note what you actually got done, not what you meant to get done.
4What to put on
plain quiet — No added sound at all. If you have a quiet room, that is usually better than any recording of one.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
