Focus session · practising an instrument · 25 min
25-minute focus session for practising an instrument with plain quiet, when you feel fine and want to stay that way
25 minutes on practising an instrument — slowly, with the metronome. One pomodoro, long enough to get somewhere and short enough to start.
25:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Let the floor take your weight through your feet, and stop holding yourself up for a second. Feeling fine is a good reason to do this, not a reason to skip it. Straight through, at a normal pace.
1 Before you start
- Dim the screen slightly. Bright screens make long sessions harder than they need to be.
- Choose one question to answer in this block, rather than a whole subject to cover.
- Get water now, so you do not have to get up in fifteen minutes.
- Promise yourself you will not check anything until the timer ends, including "just quickly".
- Turn off notifications for the next block, not just to silent.
2 While the timer runs
- When you notice you have drifted, do not restart the block. Just come back and carry on counting from where the timer is.
- It is fine to stare at the wall for a minute. That is often where the answer is.
- When the timer feels too long, look at it less. The clock is not the task.
- If a thought will not leave, give it one line on the page and return to the task.
3 When it ends
- If it went badly, note one thing that worked anyway. There is usually one.
- Take the break away from the screen, even if it is just the other side of the room.
- Resist the urge to review the work straight away. Come back to it later with fresh eyes.
4What to put on
plain quiet — No added sound at all. If you have a quiet room, that is usually better than any recording of one.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
