25-minute drawing session with distant thunder and a timer, before you go back to something hard
Sit down, press start, and fill the page for 25 minutes. One pomodoro, long enough to get somewhere and short enough to start.
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Find one place in your body that already feels fine. Use that as the starting point. Five minutes here is cheaper than an hour of grinding. We'll go through it in order, without much decoration.
1 Before you start
- Set the timer where you can see it, or where you can deliberately not see it.
- Remind yourself that you are allowed to produce something mediocre in the first pass.
- Go to the toilet first. It sounds trivial until you are mid-sentence.
- Lower the bar until starting feels almost silly, then start.
- Make sure your chair is at a height where your feet are flat on the floor.
2 While the timer runs
- The first urge to stop usually arrives early. Sit through it once and the second one is quieter.
- If you are suddenly sleepy, stand up for ten seconds and sit back down.
- It is fine to stare at the wall for a minute. That is often where the answer is.
- If you feel restless, change your posture rather than your task.
3 When it ends
- Decide whether the next block is the same task or a different one. Do not drift into it.
- Roll your shoulders and your neck before the next block.
- Say the session is finished, out loud if you can. It marks the boundary.
4What to put on
distant thunder — Low rumbles with long gaps. Suits people who find sudden noises more distracting than constant ones.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
If this block does not fit, try 50-minute focus session for studying with white noise, before something difficult, 45-minute focus block for planning — a train carriage, before you go back to something hard or 25-minute planning session with plain quiet and a timer, when you want to be left alone.
