How to use Coherent 5-5 breathing
Find balance with a 5-5 rhythm, effortlessly.
Follow the circle. It counts for you.
How it works
Equalize your in-breath and out-breath to around 5 seconds each. Make sure you're warm. Comfort is key. Start with the basics: touch, gravity, warmth.
Why it can help
This isn't about relaxing. It's about setting a steady pace for your body to adjust to, however it may.
The pattern, in seconds
| Phase | Length | Starts at |
|---|---|---|
| Inhale | 5s | 0s |
| Exhale | 5s | 5s |
One round is 10 seconds. At the default 6 rounds this practice runs 60 seconds — about 1 minute — plus a breath or two of ordinary breathing between rounds.
Good for
- when the day's energy dips
- while you're on hold, waiting for a call
- when the house is quiet, just you and the night
Tips
- Adjust the counts if they feel too long. Less is more.
- If your nose is stuffy, breathe through your mouth. It's okay.
- Without the holds, this is a great option if you're not keen on breath-holding.
Please note
If holding your breath feels off, just breathe smoothly. Don't force it. If you're pregnant or have health concerns, consult a doctor before holding your breath.
