About this practice
Use this when you sit at the kitchen table before the day begins. A guided session of about 12 minutes, suited to beginners. Nothing is recorded and no account is needed.
What happens, minute by minute
- 0:00Sit at the edge of your chair, feet flat, the weight of your legs grounding you.
- 0:30Close the kitchen window just enough to hear the street hum outside.
- 1:00Take a slow breath in, feeling the air fill the space behind your ribs.
- 1:30Feel the cool metal of the kettle handle as you set it on the stove.
- 2:00Notice the soft ticking of the clock on the wall, each beat a gentle reminder.
- 2:30Listen to the faint hiss of water heating, a quiet sound that steadies the mind.
- 3:00Turn your attention to the mug beside you, its ceramic smooth against your palm.
- 3:30Imagine the steam rising, curling like a cat's tail, disappearing into the room.
- 4:00Bring your focus to the scent of the tea, a faint earthiness that settles.
- 4:30Let your shoulders drop about an inch, releasing the tightness you didn't notice.
- 5:00Observe the way your breath creates a tiny ripple on the surface of the tea.
- 5:30Shift your gaze to the window pane, where a few raindrops cling to the glass.
- 6:00Gently notice how the drops slide, each one finding its own path.
- 6:30Allow any thought that pops up to float by, like a leaf drifting on a pond.
- 7:00Watch the dog at the door lift its head, sighing as it settles back down.
- 7:30Breathe in through the nose, count to four, then exhale through the mouth, count to six.
- 8:00Relax the muscles in your jaw, let the tongue rest lightly on the roof of your mouth.
- 8:30Sense the temperature of the room, the slight chill near the floor, the warmth near the stove.
- 9:00Open your mind to the simple fact that this moment is here, no more, no less.
- 9:30Rest your eyes briefly, let them close, and notice the darkness behind your lids.
- 10:00Keep your attention on the rhythm of your breathing, steady as a train passing by.
- 10:30Stay present as you hear the distant hum of a refrigerator, a low, constant tone.
- 11:00When you feel ready, bring your awareness back to the room, to the chair beneath you.
- 11:30Finally, stand slowly, stretch your arms overhead, and step into the day with calm.
