About this practice

A 7-minute body scan session for exhaustion, at 3pm. No app, no account — press start. A guided session of about 7 minutes, suited to all levels. Nothing is recorded and no account is needed.

What this works on: exhaustion

Exhaustion is what is left after the reserves are gone. The body has stopped asking; it is now insisting.

It tends to show up as:

  • Feeling hollow and drained
  • Emotionally flat
  • Physical heaviness all day

This is not the state to push in. The whole point here is to ask nothing and let the body be heavy.

Doing this in the mid-afternoon

  • Sit upright and open a window if you can
  • Expect heaviness rather than fighting it
  • A short session here beats a longer one that never happens

The dip is a normal circadian low. You are riding it out, not correcting a fault.

How body scan works

A body scan moves attention systematically through the body, region by region. It does not try to change what it finds — it builds a map of what is actually there, which is often different from what you assumed.

  • Move slowly, head to feet or feet to head, and do not skip the uncomfortable areas
  • Meet each region with plain curiosity rather than a verdict
  • Numbness and absence of sensation are findings too

What happens, minute by minute

  1. 0:00Loosen your grip on whatever you're holding, or imagine loosening it.
  2. 0:12Move at the speed of your attention, not the speed of a checklist. There is no schedule to keep.
  3. 0:28If some part of you is resisting this, that resistance is worth noticing too.
  4. 0:42Settle into the fact that for the next few minutes, nothing is required of you.
  5. 0:56Let the breath get soft, the way it goes when someone is reading beside you.
  6. 1:10Notice the difference between the breath at the front of your nose and the breath in your chest.
  7. 1:26Let the whole of your right foot be heavy.
  8. 1:37Let your whole body be as heavy as it wants to be.
  9. 1:50Notice your breathing, without changing it.
  10. 2:00This is not the last time the body asking you to stop will visit. That is not bad news. It means you will get more practice.
  11. 2:19Notice where the drained feeling that rest has not touched lives in your body. Chest, throat, stomach. Rest your attention there without trying to change it.
  12. 2:38Feel your hips. Wide, heavy, and doing nothing.
  13. 2:49No need to open your eyes yet.
  14. 2:59Let your breathing be boring. Boring is good here.
  15. 3:10Notice if you've been frowning at your own thoughts.
  16. 3:21Let's pause. Just the breathing for a while.
  17. 3:32We will travel down through the body, one region at a time, and leave each one softer than we found it.
  18. 3:49If a worry shows up, name it quietly and let it sit beside you.
  19. 4:03Notice how many breaths you take in a minute. Don't change the number, just check.
  20. 4:17Let's rest here in silence. It's short.
  21. 4:27Notice the space around the hollow tiredness. It is there, even if it is small. Put your attention in that space.
  22. 4:44When the body asking you to stop presses in, put a hand on your chest or your belly. Warmth and pressure are anchors your body already trusts.
  23. 5:04Feel the air as it passes the back of your throat. It's cooler going in.
  24. 5:18If your mind has wandered, that's not a mistake. Noticing is the practice.
  25. 5:31If you feel restless, that's a feeling, not a failure.
  26. 5:43Let me stop talking. Follow the breath instead.
  27. 5:54Start at the crown of the head and move down slowly. Do not skip to the parts that hurt.
  28. 6:10Let your shoulders come back up to their usual place, if they want to.
  29. 6:24Let the quiet end on its own rather than cutting it off.
  30. 6:37Nothing changes for a moment.
