About this practice
Use this when your mind feels jittery before sleep or after a busy day. A guided session of about 9 minutes, suited to all levels. Nothing is recorded and no account is needed.
What happens, minute by minute
- 0:00Sit on the edge of your chair, feet flat, knees pointing forward. Let the chair support you like a sturdy table.
- 0:30Close your eyes gently, as if you were shutting a soft door. Notice the air against your eyelids, cool as a night breeze.
- 0:58Take a slow breath in through the nose, counting to four. Exhale through the mouth, letting the sound be as quiet as a kettle cooling.
- 1:28Notice the rise of your chest, the subtle lift like a leaf unfurling. Let that movement settle.
- 1:54Turn your attention to the sound of a clock ticking nearby, each tick a gentle tap. Allow each tick to mark a pause, a moment of stillness.
- 2:32Listen to the hum of the refrigerator, steady and low, like a distant train. Let that hum anchor you.
- 3:00Let your shoulders drop about an inch, releasing any tightness. Feel the space that opens.
- 3:30Feel the weight of your hands resting on your lap, warm as a mug of tea. Notice any warmth spreading.
- 3:56Imagine a window with rain sliding down the glass, each drop tracing a line. Watch the drops merge, carrying away the tension.
- 4:34Bring your awareness to the space behind your throat, as if a small bird is perched there. Observe its quiet breathing.
- 5:02Observe the rhythm of your heartbeat, steady like a drum in a quiet room. Let each beat remind you of a steady pulse.
- 5:32Shift your focus to the soles of your feet, feeling the floor beneath like a soft rug. Notice any sensations, cold or warm.
- 5:58Gaze inward to the spot between your eyebrows, not looking, just resting there. Allow thoughts to pass like cars on a street.
- 6:36Allow a gentle sigh to rise from your chest, as natural as a dog exhaling after a nap. Release it fully.
- 7:04Breathe in again, this time counting to six, feeling the air fill your ribs like a balloon. Exhale slowly, emptying the balloon.
- 7:34Settle into the silence that follows, as calm as a library after closing. Stay present.
- 8:00Rest your mind on the simple fact that you are here, breathing, alive. No need to change anything.
- 8:30Stay in this quiet for as long as you like, then when you’re ready, open your eyes slowly. Carry this calm forward.
