About this practice
Use this when you lie down and want the night to settle gently. A guided session of about 6 minutes, suited to all levels. Nothing is recorded and no account is needed.
What happens, minute by minute
- 0:00Find a place where you can lie down without being disturbed, perhaps the bed you already know. Let the mattress support you as it has every night.
- 0:30Turn off the lights and let the room settle into a soft gray, like the sky just after sunset. Feel the calm that follows the dimming.
- 1:00Place a pillow under your knees if that feels comfortable, and let your legs relax a little more. Notice how the extra support eases the lower back.
- 1:30Take a slow breath in through your nose, count to four, then let it out through your mouth as if you were sighing after a long day. Keep the rhythm gentle and even.
- 2:00Notice the weight of the blanket as it settles on you, the gentle pressure like a hand resting on your shoulders. Allow that feeling to anchor you.
- 2:30Feel your feet sink into the sheets, the fabric cool against the skin. Let that sensation travel up through your calves.
- 3:00Listen to the faint hum of the refrigerator, the steady rhythm that keeps the house alive. Let the sound become a background pulse.
- 3:30Imagine the sound of rain tapping a window, each drop a tiny tap that fades. Let the pattern match the beat of your breath.
- 4:00Let your shoulders drop about an inch, releasing the tightness you felt all day. Feel the space open between your neck and ears.
- 4:30Observe the rise and fall of your chest, a slow tide.
- 4:42Count each breath, four in, four out, and let the numbers drift.
- 4:52Release any thought that clings, like a dog shaking off water.
- 5:02Bring your attention to the spot between your eyebrows, just a quiet place.
- 5:12Sense the cool air at the edge of the room, a gentle whisper.
- 5:22Allow your mind to wander to the kitchen, a kettle beginning to boil, soft steam rising.
- 5:32Return to the breath, each inhale a soft pull, each exhale a sigh.
- 5:40Rest in the stillness, no need to do anything else.
- 5:48Sleep comes when you are ready, let it arrive in its own time.
- 5:56Breathe in the scent of the room, maybe a hint of lavender from a nearby pillow, and let it settle.
- 6:10Close the day in your mind, let the last thought be as simple as a cat curling on a windowsill.
