About this practice

Nothing to learn and nothing to fix: 3 minutes of body scan for low energy, on the road. A guided session of about 3 minutes, suited to all levels. Nothing is recorded and no account is needed.

What this works on: low energy

Low energy is a flat battery, not laziness. Pushing through it further drains reserves and produces worse work, faster.

It tends to show up as:

  • Everything feeling like an effort
  • Procrastinating on simple tasks
  • Tiredness sitting deep in the body

A short practice will not restore the reserve, but it removes some of the tension that is draining it.

Doing this on a train

  • Pick a window seat if you can and let the view do part of the work
  • Set an alarm for your stop
  • Keep the bag on your lap rather than unfastening to find it later

The motion can make reading or screens uncomfortable, which is another reason audio works better here.

How body scan works

A body scan moves attention systematically through the body, region by region. It does not try to change what it finds — it builds a map of what is actually there, which is often different from what you assumed.

  • Move slowly, head to feet or feet to head, and do not skip the uncomfortable areas
  • Meet each region with plain curiosity rather than a verdict
  • Numbness and absence of sensation are findings too

What happens, minute by minute

  1. 0:00Rest your hands somewhere they don't have to do anything.
  2. 0:12If a region feels numb, that is a finding too. Note it and move on.
  3. 0:26We'll work through this slowly. If you lose the thread, the thread will wait.
  4. 0:40Follow the breath down into your belly and feel it come back up.
  5. 0:53Breathe as if you had all evening. There's no rush in this part.
  6. 1:06Notice the space between your shoulder blades.
  7. 1:16You do not have to win against the effort everything takes. You only have to breathe until the next moment arrives.
  8. 1:33If the flat battery feeling has been with you all day, it is probably tired too. Let it rest alongside you.
  9. 1:50Notice that you don't have to start a breath. It arrives by itself.
  10. 2:03You do not have to solve the tiredness that sits in the bones in these few minutes. Your only job is to keep breathing while it is here.
  11. 2:23Notice how you're sitting. Adjust if you need to. Then settle again.
  12. 2:36Your only job is to notice what is there, region by region, without fixing anything.
  13. 2:50Stand up when you're ready. The list hasn't grown while you were here.
