Focus session · decluttering · 45 min
Deep work timer: 45 minutes of decluttering (forest at dusk), if you have done this a hundred times
One block of decluttering with forest at dusk underneath. A single class period, the length most people can hold before the quality drops.
45:00
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Let the floor take your weight through your feet, and stop holding yourself up for a second. If you have done this a hundred times, change one small thing tonight. No preamble. We start with the body.
1 Before you start
- Close every tab that is not needed for this one task. Not minimised — closed.
- Expect to want to stop at about the eight-minute mark. That is normal and it passes.
- Put your phone in another room, or in a drawer you cannot reach without standing up.
- Choose one question to answer in this block, rather than a whole subject to cover.
- Have a piece of paper beside you for the thoughts that will try to interrupt.
2 While the timer runs
- If your attention keeps sliding, shorten the next block rather than abandoning this one.
- If you feel restless, change your posture rather than your task.
- It is fine to stare at the wall for a minute. That is often where the answer is.
- When you notice you have drifted, do not restart the block. Just come back and carry on counting from where the timer is.
3 When it ends
- Say the session is finished, out loud if you can. It marks the boundary.
- Leave the file open if you are coming back. Closing it makes restarting harder.
- If it went badly, note one thing that worked anyway. There is usually one.
4What to put on
forest at dusk — Birds settling, leaves moving, nothing sudden. It works because it sounds like a place you can safely ignore.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
