Focus session · exam revision · 90 min
A 90-minute block for exam revision, with rain on a window, when you cannot concentrate on anything else
A single 90-minute block for exam revision — recall rather than re-reading.
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Feel your ribs move. That is all the machinery you need to pay attention to right now. When concentration is gone, work with what is left. We'll be efficient and then you can get on with your day.
1 Before you start
- Close every tab that is not needed for this one task. Not minimised — closed.
- Choose one question to answer in this block, rather than a whole subject to cover.
- Clear the surface in front of you down to the thing you are working on.
- Plan to leave the last two minutes for writing down where to pick up next time.
- Make sure your chair is at a height where your feet are flat on the floor.
2 While the timer runs
- Notice the moment your hand moves toward your phone. That moment is the whole skill.
- When you finish a piece, pause for three seconds before starting the next. It keeps the pace honest.
- If the task suddenly feels impossible, make it smaller rather than stopping. One paragraph. One function. One row.
- If you are bored, the boredom is usually the last thing before something clicks.
3 When it ends
- Say the session is finished, out loud if you can. It marks the boundary.
- Roll your shoulders and your neck before the next block.
- Resist the urge to review the work straight away. Come back to it later with fresh eyes.
4What to put on
rain on a window — Steady rain is broadband noise with a slow natural rhythm. It masks speech and keyboard clatter without being interesting enough to listen to.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
If this block does not fit, try 50-minute focus session for brainstorming with a train carriage, when you are somewhere noisy, 45-minute focus block for brainstorming — plain quiet, after a long day or 50-minute focus block for decluttering — distant thunder, if you have done this a hundred times.
