A 90-minute block for drawing, with café murmur, when you are somewhere noisy
A single 90-minute block for drawing — without correcting anything yet.
Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.
Notice whether you're leaning forward. Most people are, slightly, all day. Noise is fine. You are not trying to hear anything subtle. This is a short one, so let's use the time properly.
1 Before you start
- Set the timer where you can see it, or where you can deliberately not see it.
- Lower the bar until starting feels almost silly, then start.
- Go to the toilet first. It sounds trivial until you are mid-sentence.
- Promise yourself you will not check anything until the timer ends, including "just quickly".
- Turn off notifications for the next block, not just to silent.
2 While the timer runs
- It is fine to stare at the wall for a minute. That is often where the answer is.
- When you catch yourself re-reading the same sentence, stop and write down what you were looking for.
- Notice whether you are working or performing work. They look similar from the outside.
- If you start tidying your desk, that is avoidance. Sit back down.
3 When it ends
- Have a drink of water before you check anything.
- Note what you actually got done, not what you meant to get done.
- Write down the question you could not answer, so it has somewhere to live.
4What to put on
café murmur — The blur of other people talking, with none of the words close enough to follow. Some people concentrate better with a low level of company.
This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
