90-minute focus session for editing with a fan or air conditioner, when you are somewhere noisy

90 minutes on editing — the boring pass that makes it readable. One full ultradian cycle, for work that needs a long runway.

90:00

Press start. The timer keeps time so you do not have to look at a clock.

Drop your attention from your head into your chest for a second. Noise is fine. You are not trying to hear anything subtle. This is a short one, so let's use the time properly.

1 Before you start

  • Put the thing you keep reaching for out of arm's reach.
  • Plan to leave the last two minutes for writing down where to pick up next time.
  • Close every tab that is not needed for this one task. Not minimised — closed.
  • If your mind is already racing, write down the three loudest thoughts before you begin.
  • Decide what counts as done for this block. "Two pages" is better than "make progress".

2 While the timer runs

  • If you are bored, the boredom is usually the last thing before something clicks.
  • If you are suddenly sleepy, stand up for ten seconds and sit back down.
  • If you feel restless, change your posture rather than your task.
  • If nothing is working, write badly on purpose for two minutes.

3 When it ends

  • Put the notes you made where you will find them next time.
  • Roll your shoulders and your neck before the next block.
  • Have a drink of water before you check anything.

4What to put on

a fan or air conditioner — A constant mechanical hum with no variation. The lack of change is the point — nothing in it asks for your attention.

This page is a tool, not a course. Nothing is tracked, nothing is saved, and nobody is told whether you finished.
