25-minute focus session for portfolio work with distant traffic, when you want something simple
25 minutes on portfolio work — the last ten percent. One pomodoro, long enough to get somewhere and short enough to start.

Rest your hands somewhere they don't have to do anything. Simple is the point. There is no advanced version to graduate to. We'll go through it in order, without much decoration.
1 Before you start
- Put your phone in another room, or in a drawer you cannot reach without standing up.
- Expect to want to stop at about the eight-minute mark. That is normal and it passes.
- Go to the toilet first. It sounds trivial until you are mid-sentence.
- If you are dreading it, make the first action physical: open the file, sharpen the pencil.
- Close every tab that is not needed for this one task. Not minimised — closed.
2 While the timer runs
- When you get an idea for something else, park it. Do not follow it.
- If you are bored, the boredom is usually the last thing before something clicks.
- If nothing is working, write badly on purpose for two minutes.
- When the timer feels too long, look at it less. The clock is not the task.
3 When it ends
- Look out of a window for thirty seconds. Your eyes have been at one distance for a while.
- Say the session is finished, out loud if you can. It marks the boundary.
- If it went badly, note one thing that worked anyway. There is usually one.
4What to put on
distant traffic — A low continuous wash from a road you are not on. Familiar and easy to stop hearing.
