How to use Double-inhale sigh for a reset, when the house is busy
3 · 8 breathing: two inhales stacked together, then everything out through the mouth.
Follow the circle. It counts for you.
How it works
Breathe in through your nose. Before you let it out, take a second short sip of air on top. Then release everything slowly through your mouth. It works with other people in the house. You do not need silence. Simple things first: contact, weight, temperature.
Why it can help
There is nothing to count and nothing to remember beyond "in, in again, all the way out".
The pattern, in seconds
| Phase | Length | Starts at |
|---|---|---|
| Inhale | 3s | 0s |
| Exhale | 8s | 3s |
One round is 11 seconds. At the default 6 rounds this practice runs 66 seconds — about 1 minute — plus a breath or two of ordinary breathing between rounds.
Good for
- after a long drive, to shake off the alertness
- when you are the only person awake in the house
- at the kitchen table, with a cup of tea going cold
Tips
- Notice which part of the breath feels tight, and reduce that count first.
- There is no need to breathe deeply. Long and quiet is the aim.
- Nothing is held here, so there is no moment where you are waiting for permission to breathe.
Please note
The double inhale is gentle, but if you feel lightheaded, reduce it to a single inhale and a long exhale. Stop if you feel dizzy. If you have a heart or lung condition, check with a doctor before starting a new breathing practice.
